The Secretary General of the Andean Community (CAN), Jorge Hernando Pedraza, called on international organizations in Latin America on Wednesday (17.07.2019) to work together and in an associated manner for the well-being of the citizens of the region.
Speaking at the opening of the seminar “Closing gaps in Latin American integration processes,” organized by the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA) and the Institute for the Integration of Latin America and the Caribbean of the IDB, the Secretary General of the CAN affirmed that international organizations must opt for the path of complementarity.
"As Andean Secretary, I advocate for integrated work for the benefit of the citizens of Latin America. It is time for integration processes to be synchronized to achieve better results in the search for improved quality of life on the continent."", said Hernando Pedraza.
Likewise, the Permanent Secretary of the SELA, Ambassador Javier Paulinich called for strengthening Latin American integration at a time of international juncture, characterized by trade wars between major powers.
«Strengthening regional integration is an imperative, and it must also be considered as an effort made by organizations with monitoring and recommendations to policy makers on the best ways to strengthen it.", said Paulinich at the end of the meeting.
The event was attended by the IDB representative, Jaime Granados; Ambassador César Montaño, in charge of General Directorate 2 of the CAN General Secretariat; representatives of regional organizations promoting integration, focal points for integration, government representatives of SELA member states and experts in the field.
