Colombia and Argentina seek to "increase trade," says Duque

Colombian President Iván Duque arrived in Buenos Aires on Sunday evening (09.06.2019) on his first official visit to Argentina.

According to the president, the visit is focused on improving exports from Colombia, bringing investment to the country and making the binational tourism market increasingly larger.

Duque arrived accompanied by the ministers of Commerce, José Manuel Restrepo; Agriculture, Andrés Valencia; and Culture, Carmen Inés Vásuez; among other deputy ministers.

«Colombia and Argentina have had a brotherly relationship for many years and we come with many goals. One of them is to increase Colombian trade with Argentina, strengthen the relationship and bring more investment from Argentina to Colombia.", said President Duque upon getting off the presidential plane.

"We are going to sign several agreements, some on cooperation in the area of ​​creative industries, in the area of ​​agricultural development and exchange of technologies, as well as tourism," he added to the press.

Agenda

The agenda for Monday (10.06.2019) starts with a breakfast with a group of businessmen, which will take place at the Hyatt Hotel. After 11:00 a.m. he will lay a wreath at the Monument to the Liberator General José de San Martín, in the plaza of the same name, in the Retiro neighborhood. There he will be accompanied by the Argentine Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie and the Secretary of Strategic Affairs, Fulvio Pompeo.

At noon, the president will arrive at the Casa Rosada, where he will be given military honors. He will then have a private meeting with his counterpart Mauricio Macri.

The expanded Argentina-Colombia meeting will then begin, during which diplomatic relations will be reviewed, agreements will be signed and both leaders will make a statement to the media.

After 3:00 p.m., Duque will receive a plaque as an illustrious visitor at the Museum of Decorative Art. From there he will travel to the Museum of Decorative Art, where he will give a lecture on the orange economy.

The president is scheduled to return to Colombia after 9:00 p.m., Argentine time.
