Within the framework of the Central American Trade Facilitation Strategy, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Panama they signed a Addendum to Honduras' accession to the Mutual Recognition Agreement on the figure of the Authorized Economic Operator (OAS), reported the Guatemalan Tax Administration Superintendency.
The document was signed this Tuesday (14.12.2021) virtually during an extraordinary meeting of the Central American Customs Committee, which is owned by Guatemala, serving as pro tempore president of the Central American Integration System (Sica) in the second half of 2021.
The text was signed by the head of the Superintendency of Tax Administration of Guatemala, Werner Ovalle; the Director General of Customs of Costa Rica, Gerardo Bolaños; the Director of the National Customs Authority of El Salvador, Samathy Martínez; the National Director of Customs of Panama, Tayra Barsallo, as well as the Executive Director of the Customs Administration of Honduras, Juan José Vides.
According to the statement, the Mutual Recognition Agreement on the OAS figure will provide benefits related to the streamlining and facilitation of the clearance of goods and reduction of verifications for actors authorized as OAS in these Central American countries.
In this way, the signed instrument confirms the cooperation between the five customs services on the basis of Authorized Economic Operators, which will allow for the granting of joint benefits that will support the strengthening of security and the facilitation of international trade in the region.
