China imported 2.840 billion yuan (408 million U.S. dollars) in epidemic prevention and control materials between January 24 and February 11 to minimize the impact caused by the new coronavirus epidemic, data released by the General Administration of Customs (GAC) showed.

The country imported 870 million items, including 730 million face masks, 1,54 million pairs of glasses, 7,41 million protective clothing and 2,22 million boxes of medicines, as well as 1,34 million pieces of medical equipment, the GAC said in a statement on Wednesday (12.02.2020).

According to the data, goods donated by overseas branches of state-owned enterprises, overseas Chinese communities, foreign governments and civil organizations accounted for 17,8% of the country's total imports of epidemic prevention materials during this period.

To further prevent possible infection, the GAC will continue to strengthen health and quarantine inspections on incoming and outgoing passengers and vehicles, as well as ensure prompt clearance of imported materials for epidemic prevention and control, according to the statement.
