Argentina has reached a health agreement to export breeding cattle from Patagonia to Chile after more than seven years of negotiations.
Argentine bovine genetics
In this regard, the president of the National Service for Food Safety and Quality (Senasa), Ricardo Negri, said: "The novelty clearly represents another advance achieved by our Agency (Senasa) that contributes to the progress of national bovine genetics."
Recently, the Chilean Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) informed Senasa of its acceptance of the Argentine proposal for a health protocol to protect the export of bovine breeding animals from Patagonia to that country.
Regional destination
Chile, a destination of high interest for producers in southern Argentina, joins Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Colombia, among others, who already receive Argentine breeders.
According to Chilean requirements, males and females may be exported from the foot-and-mouth disease-free zone in Argentina without vaccination. In addition, the animals must not be vaccinated against brucellosis.
Habitation, key
The authorization of the establishment of origin of Argentine animals by Chile is a requirement of the SAG. In this way, those interested in sending their animals to the neighboring country must plan to process the application for authorization of the same, prior to export.
Senasa continues working to open the Chilean market to bovine semen and embryos.
