Chilean President Sebastián Piñera presented on Monday (25.6.2018) a bill on Digital Transformation that seeks to make electronic support mandatory in administrative procedures, in order to modernize the Chilean State.
Furthermore, the official information points out that the objective of the state modernization, according to Piñera, is "helping our compatriots fulfill their dreams, solve their problems, develop their talents and take advantage of opportunities."

In the ceremony, Piñera digitally signed the project, an action that placed him as the first president in the country's history to have his signature signed using this method.
"I am convinced that we are taking another step towards a society that can legitimately aspire to leave behind 200 years of underdevelopment, 200 years of poverty and 200 years of bureaucracy," he said.
He added that it is necessary to think "how we can make the State simplify and not complicate the lives of our compatriots."

The bill aims to prioritize the use of digital channels for administrative procedures, which will have legal validity.
He stressed, however, that the task of modernizing the State will not be simple, because it will require changing laws, technology and "a culture".
For this reason, Piñera announced the creation of a Permanent Advisory Council for the Modernization of the State.
The committee will be headed by former Comptroller General Ramiro Mendoza and will be made up of 12 representatives from various areas of the Chilean public and private sectors.
Its objective will be to advise the president on state reforms, thereby contributing to the continuity of the Chilean modernization process.
According to official data, 108 million dollars are spent annually in Chile on printed documents.
