The National Customs Service of Chile adopted this Thursday (19.03.2020/XNUMX/XNUMX) a series of foreign trade facilitation measures to ensure the logistics chain and, in turn, protect the health of the institution's officials and Customs Agency workers who must intervene in person in various customs processes.
In this way, and in the context of the declaration of a State of National Exception due to Catastrophe made by the Chilean Government, the National Customs Directorate issued the Resolution No. 1.179 which contains a series of Concrete actions to simplify and secure operations in all sea, air and land ports in Chile, using electronic means of communication and other tools.
Among the determined is that se may authorize the Physical inspections (calibrations) of goods without the presence of employees or assistants to Customs Agents. For this you must first realisesend the request via email, which will be answered in the same way.
Likewise, the following are authorized: granting dispatch mandates via email; the possibility that Customs Agents and their assistants can perform their functions remotely; and that the basic documents that allow processing imports and exports, the Request for Modification to Customs Document (SMDA) and the Legalization of Export Declarations, among others, can be received via email.
Another relevant measure is that the withdrawal of goods that are located in customs warehouses may be carried out by employees of a customs agency other than the one responsible for their clearance, which must issue a simple power of attorney and adopt the necessary control measures.

In general terms, the measures adopted by the National Customs Service establish that all documentation processed electronically must be sent in PDF format and presented in originals within a period of 30 days, which is why it is emphasized that Customs Agents must properly safeguard these documents.
Finally, the Regional Directorates and Customs Administrations are instructed to provide the greatest possible facilities so that foreign trade procedures can be carried out in an agile and expeditious manner through electronic means, in addition to establishing the necessary coordination with other operators, such as port terminals, warehouses and issuers of transport documents, so that procedures are adopted that allow the carrying out of procedures electronically.
All these measures will come into effect as of tomorrow, Friday, March 20.
