The Chilean Government delivered a building in a 1.500 m2 plot., located between Gorostiaga and Latorre streets in the civic center of Iquique so that the construction will soon begin there. The allocation of the land was finalized via video conference in which the aforementioned authorities participated, and in which the Mayor of Tarapacá, Miguel Ángel Quezada, the Seremi of National Assets, Pilar Barrientos, the Director of the Regional Customs of Iquique, Cristian Molina and the management and professional teams that participated in the management were also present.

In turn, the Undersecretary of Finance, Francisco Moreno, pointed out that “This is an example of the State working in a coordinated manner for the benefit of citizens in order to provide a better customs service and, in addition, contributing to the cultural heritage of the Tarapacá region. Customs is a fundamental pillar of foreign trade, which with its work generates greater tax collection, resources that benefit all Chileans".
El National Director of Customs, José Ignacio Palma, together with his team of professionals, shared the details of the building that is expected to be built, along with thanking the efforts of the Ministry of National Assets and the technical teams.

The construction of the new building for the Regional Directorate of Customs in Iquique is relevant given the growing need for space for the development of the work of this service, which meets the demand of the Tarapacá Region.
Iquique Customs in numbers
Currently the staff of the Iquique Customs corresponds to 187 officials, who work both in the regional offices and at the Colchane border crossing, the El Loa and Quillagua outposts, Zofri, the Alto Hospicio Business Park, in the port of Iquique and in the molos of Iquique Terminal Internacional and Empresa Portuaria Iquique, in addition to the Diego Aracena International Airport and in the extra-port facilities.
The statistics of foreign trade show that through the Iquique Customs, during the first quarter of 2020 se they exported 1.033 billion dollars, with a participation of 5,7%, and imported 266 billion dollars, with a participation of 1,7%.
For this same period the Customs duties, VAT and other taxes collected by the Iquique Customs were 30,6 million.
