Chile imposes nightly curfew from Sunday due to coronavirus

The Chilean government announced a curfew from this Sunday (22.03.2020/22/05) from 632 p.m. to 3 a.m. due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has resulted in XNUMX confirmed cases and one death in the trans-Andean country that registered its first infection on March XNUMX.

«The President has ordered a curfew throughout the country starting tonight from 22:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following day., announced the Minister of Health, Jaime Mañalich, in a press conference from the Moneda Palace, the seat of Government in Santiago. 

In addition, the authority mentioned 2 public health measures that will be implemented in that country to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus and ensure that people comply with mandatory isolation.

Government measures

1. Strict quarantine in Puerto Williams (no one enters or leaves, except for essential cargo transportation).

2. Stricter sanitary customs at air and sea crossings of the Strait of Magellan, with passage only of cargo and duly authorized persons.

3. Tightening of health customs in Chiloé.

4. Sanitary cordon around the city of Chillán, no one enters or leaves the city.

5. Prohibit transit to “second homes” (summer homes) where there is a high density of this type of housing.

6. Instruct those who have gone on vacation to return to their places of origin no later than Tuesday at 22:00 p.m.

7. Tightening of sanitary customs.

8. Mandatory quarantine for everyone arriving in Chile, regardless of origin.

9. Curfew from 22:00 p.m. to 05:00 a.m. starting this Sunday, March 22.

10. Within a week, rapid testing will be used to detect people who may have the virus without having symptoms. The test sites will be announced. It detects antibodies against the virus.

11. Positive cases that do not comply with the quarantine de facto or that cannot comply with it may be admitted (forcibly if necessary) to a facility to comply with the mandatory quarantine period.

12. Starting this Sunday, March 22, very strict control will be established in the communes of Providencia, Las Condes and Vitacura to ensure that people who should be in quarantine are actually doing so.
