A large shipment of cocaine was seized by officials of the Chilean National Customs Service in the north of that country. Near Chungará (border with Bolivia) the truck was seized with 129 kilograms of cocaine and cocaine paste destined for the port of Arica.
The Regional Director of the Arica Customs, Hugo Yávar Oñate, said according to the statement, that during the control carried out to prevent the entry of all types of contraband into Chile, "the inspectors received the documentation of a Bolivian transporter, who said he was traveling empty. Notwithstanding this, he was informed that he would be inspected and that he must open the cargo compartment.”
The document details that the truck was subjected to inspection with non-invasive technology and using a densitometer and fiberscopes, the existence of a double bottom in the rear wall of the trailer was confirmed. Pursuant to customs authority, the wall was dismantled and inspectors found 118 rectangular packages wrapped in grey and black straps.
In this regard, the Regional Director of the Arica Customs Office stated: “After dismantling the false wall, they found 37 grey packages containing 41 kilos 840 grams of cocaine hydrochloride. Added to this were another 69 grey packages and 12 black packages with a total of 88 kilos 150 grams of cocaine paste. That is, a total of 129 kilos 990 grams of drugsa".
Then the customs officers checked with a particle analyzer that the contents of the packages were narcotic substances and the Public Prosecutor's Office was notified at the same time.
The case was left in the hands of prosecutor Patricio Espinoza, while the drugs and evidence were handed over to Carabineros for safekeeping and transfer.
The seized drugs have a value of more than 2.160 billion pesos on the Chilean illicit market.
