Chile trains customs officers to detect fake medicines

To strengthen the work of drug identification and control, the National Customs Service together with Laboratorio Chile and Estudio Silva trained 97 officials who carry out inspection work at different checkpoints nationwide, the agency of the trans-Andean country reported this Friday (27.03.2020/XNUMX/XNUMX).

According to the statement, the workshops are part of the Integrated and Regular Plans for Public Health and Intellectual Property Inspection, which aim to: Prevent the entry of products that could harm the health of the population, such as medicines or goods that do not have the certification of health authorities or are counterfeit.s.

The Deputy Director of Inspection, Carlos Escudero, said that “These types of programs are essential to provide our officials with tools and updates that allow them to detect and retain medications that do not comply with health standards, with the aim of protecting the health of our population.".

The workshops focused on explaining to attendees the work and functions carried out by Laboratorio Chile, the importance of regulatory processes and the detection of counterfeit medicines at the national level.

The legal regulations on intellectual property in force in the country were also explained, and the differences that exist when detecting counterfeit clothing versus doing the same with medicines were exemplified, showing practical cases on various procedures carried out by Chilean Customs.

The training sessions included presentations by the Associate Director of Regulatory Affairs of Laboratorio Chile, Nancy Araneda; the Legal Director Chile & Latam of Laboratorio Chile, Alberto Martínez; and the lawyer and partner of Estudio Silva, Andrés Grunewaldt.
