Chile: Customs intercepts car with drugs in Chacalluta

-

A car with 15 kilos 635 grams of cocaine hydrochloride and 1 kilo 200 grams of marijuana was intercepted by inspectors of the Chilean National Customs Service at the Chacalluta border complex (north). The vehicle was driven by a Chilean who in 2009 was detected with the same modus operandi and sentenced to 7 years in prison.

The Regional Director of the Arica Customs, Osvaldo Osorio Iglesias, said that during the control work carried out by the inspectors in Chacalluta “A vehicle that made an unusual journey was selected based on documents and risk profiles. At the same time, a detection dog alerted its handler about traces of drugs in the same car, which triggered an in-depth inspection.”.

With all this background, the Customs officials intervened in the vehicle and, using non-invasive technology, confirmed the existence of contraband in the structure, so they proceeded to dismantle the vehicle.

This is how they found 29 packages containing 15 kilos 635 grams of cocaine hydrochloride and another 7 packages containing 1 kilo 200 grams of marijuana in total.

After the existence of drugs was confirmed, the facts were reported to the public prosecutor and the driver and owner of the vehicle, the Chilean, was handed over to the police along with the drugs and evidence.

The arrest was carried out at the Arica Guarantee Court and the magistrate José Urrutia Molina decreed the legal arrest and ordered preventive detention for the accused, who in 2009 was caught using the same modus operandi when he was trying to transport 14 kilos of cocaine from Arica to Santiago.

In another case, also thanks to the use of combined techniques, the inspectors intercepted the Chilean miner in Chacalluta, who traveled on vacation to Tacna and returned with 325 grams of marijuana attached to his body by means of a belt.
