The Agua Negra border crossing, which connects the province of San Juan in the Chilean mountain range with Coquimbo, was closed on Sunday (20.1.2018) as a result of the 6,7 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale recorded on the central coast of Chile that left at least two dead, reported authorities of the neighboring country.
Daniela Norambuena Borgheresi, governor of Elqui, decreed "the closure for this Sunday due to inspections that were carried out early in the morning," she said in a video posted on the governor's Twitter account.
"We ask Argentine tourists who are planning to enter or leave the region to postpone their trip. We are going to work with all the machinery of the Highway Department, since there are important traffic jams, so we will declare the closure as a precaution," he said.
IMPORTANT: To all users who want to return to Argentina through the Agua Negra pass in Coquimbo, we inform you that it is CLOSED due to vehicles on the route following the earthquake that occurred yesterday in the area. https://t.co/KtRgRmoqVw
