El Salvador, through the Ministry of Economy, received this Friday (02.12.2022) from Guatemala the Pro Tempore Presidency of the Council of Ministers of Economic Integration (COMIECO) and the Central American Economic Integration Subsystem, a position it will hold during the first half of 2023.
According to the statement from the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA), the Minister Maria Luisa Hayen, will focus its efforts on two priority areas: COMIECO's agenda to conclude the work and the Central American Trade Facilitation Strategy.
To this end, it will promote the strategic objectives of Central American economic integration through the coordination of sectoral policies that allow for greater productive articulation, the development of regional production and increased competitiveness for entering international markets.
In this regard, El Salvador will seek to ensure that the Central American region makes the most of trade agreements with strategic partners for export destinations, investment promotion, international cooperation and trade facilitation.
El SIECA head, Francisco Lima Mena, highlighted the leadership of María Luisa Hayén in leading the bloc to accelerate the digitalization agenda, reduce logistics times and jointly face global challenges within the framework of a work strategy that will help transform the economies of the countries that make up the customs union in Central America.
With this political support and methodological decision, Central America demonstrates that the process of deep integration, although gradual, can be accelerated in specific circumstances.
