Brazil plans investments of 24.630 billion dollars with 44 infrastructure projects to be awarded in 2020

The Brazilian government announced on Friday (13.12.2019) that it will tender 44 infrastructure projects next year, with which it hopes to attract more than 101.000 billion reais (about 24.630 billion dollars) in investments.

According to the Minister of Infrastructure, Tarcísio de Freitas, this is about 44 concessions between airports, highways, ports and railways.

If the projected revenue is achieved, it will represent more than 11 times the total amount the government raised this year from infrastructure concessions and 43 percent of all the concessions the government wants to make until 2022, when the presidential mandate of Jair Bolsonaro expires, amounting to 231.000 billion reais (56.340 billion dollars).

According to Freitas, the concession of the Nova Dutra highway, which links the cities of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, the two largest in the country, will require 17.000 billion reais (4.145 billion dollars) in investments.

«It will be the big project of next year along with the 22 airports"which will be awarded to private enterprise," the minister added.

According to the Government's plans, in 2020, seven roads to private initiative, which should generate 42.600 billion reais (10.390 billion dollars) in investments.

In December next year, the tender for 22 airports, in three blocks, with investments estimated at 5.000 billion reais (1.220 billion dollars).

In 2021, the remaining airports in Brazil that are still under state management will be put out to tender.

On port sectorThe Brazilian government plans to grant nine terminals to private enterprise in the states of Ceará, Bahia and Maranhao (northeast of the country), Sao Paulo (southeast) and Paraná (south), with a total of almost 1.000 billion reais in investments (244 million dollars).

On railway sectorInvestments worth 52.800 billion reais (12.880 billion dollars) are expected, with two new railway lines: the one that will connect the west and east of the country and the Ferrograo, as well as four early contract renewals.

The minister explained that in 2018, 9.400 billion reais (2.290 billion dollars) were invested in the 27 assets tendered (12 airports, 13 ports, a railway line and a highway).
