Brazil: Anti-COVID-19 items imported by mail have zero tariff

-

The Brazilian government reduced tariffs on products to combat the new coronavirus to zero imported by the Post Office or by private parcel carriersthrough  Regulatory Instruction No. 1.940.

The document, published on Monday (20.04.2020/XNUMX/XNUMX) in the Official Gazette of the Union, states that the measure will be in force until the September 30.

Traditionally, these products pay 60% to enter the country, according to the rate applied in the Simplified Tax Regime. On April 15, the Ministry of Economy issued an ordinance ordering the reduction to zero, but the Federal Revenue Secretariat reported that the regulation was issued now because the agency had to adapt customs control procedures to the pandemic.

Among the products that can be imported by the Post Office or by international air order, without paying tariffs, are: medications, personal protective equipment such as gloves and masks, and hospital equipment such as ventilators.

Products to combat Covid-19 imported through traditional means, such as foreign trade companies, are already exempt from import tax. In recent weeks, the Chamber of Foreign Trade (Camex) reduced the tax to zero on 177 items for this purpose.
