The number is more than doubled in the same period last year, when there were only 14 deaths. The national campaign against influenza ends this Friday (22.6.2018).
So far, 3,6 million children under five have not been vaccinated. This priority group has the lowest vaccination coverage, accounting for 67,7% of the 12,6 million who should receive the vaccine.
The Ministry of Health recommends that municipalities that still have doses available expand vaccination for children aged five to nine years and adults aged 50 to 59 years.
Flu cases
The government expressed concern that of the total of 54,4 million people who need to be vaccinated, 45,8 million people have been vaccinated in Brazil so far.
The Children from six months to five years of age and pregnant women have the lowest vaccination rates against the flu, with coverage of only 71%.
The selection of priority groups for influenza vaccination follows the recommendation of the World Health Organization (WHO).
According to the latest bulletin from the Ministry of Health, as of June 16, 3.122 cases of influenza were recorded throughout Brazil with 535 deaths. Of the total, 1.885 cases and 351 deaths were due to H1N1.
Regarding the virus H3N2, 635 cases and 97 deaths were recorded.
In addition, there were 278 records of influenza B, with 31 deaths and the other 324 of flu a not subtyped, with 56 deaths, the statement says.
