Argentina's trade balance showed a surplus in January

The trade balance for January had a surplus of 372 million dollars, with exports of 4.586 billion dollars and imports of 4.214 billion dollars, the National Institute of Statistics and Census (Indec) reported on Thursday (21.2.2019).

The INDEC report adds that trade, i.e. the sum of exports and imports, registered a value of 8.800 billion dollars, 16,6% lower than in January of last year.

In the year-on-year comparison, exports decreased by 4,7%, meaning that in January, products worth 224 million dollars less were sold abroad than in the same month of 2018.

The drop in imports was even more abrupt, due to a significant drop in quantities, which decreased by 26,5% in the interannual comparison, with a drop of 1.523

Exports of primary products increased by 12,6% year-on-year, agricultural manufactures (MOA) grew by 6,5%, while those of industrial manufactures (MOI) fell by 24,3% and those of fuels and energy also fell by 27,4%.
