The Economic Operator Program (OEA) team headed by the The Chilean National Customs Service continues to work actively in the validation visit stage corresponding to the action plan signed between the Customs administrations of the States parties to Mercosur –Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela- and the Pacific Alliance -Peru, Colombia, Mexico and Chile-, which is expected to culminate in the coming months with the signing of a Mutual Recognition Arrangement (ARM) between these countries.
The last of these working meetings was held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and during its development the participating countries evaluate the host country, checking that the programs of each country are compatible with the Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade (SAFE Framework of Standards) of the World Customs Organization (WCO). It is also an important opportunity to exchange good practices and experience between the different teams of the member countries.
During the visit to the Brazilian Customs, Chile was represented by official Waleska Lufin, from the Authorized Economic Operator Unit of the Customs Inspection Sub-directorate, who together with her peers from Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Paraguay had the opportunity to participate in validation inspections of 3 companies applying for the Brazilian OEA Certification.
The objective of these visits was to learn how Brazilian officials carry out their certification process, identifying the requirements for approval of their requirements, the evidence required and how they carry out the validation process for companies to obtain the Authorized Economic Operator certification.
As part of this same action plan, Chile hopes to host the Mercosur countries between May 4 and 8.
Mutual recognition between AEO programs contributes significantly to strengthening supply chain security, facilitating trade, streamlining and simplifying customs procedures, and promotes greater competitiveness of foreign trade operations carried out by operators certified as AEO.
