The national government allows the opening of the Southern Integration Pass, In the extreme south of Argentina and Chile, for transit to another region, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they should not present symptoms.
This is established by Provision 1714/2020 of the National Directorate of Migration, published this Thursday (19.03.2020/XNUMX/XNUMX) in the Official Gazette. The text authorizes “on an exceptional basis and subject to reciprocity”, the transit of foreign residents in the towns of Puerto Natales, Punta Arenas and Porvenir of the Republic of Chile, through international steps San Sebastian with Southern Integration and Cardinal Samoré with Huemules.
The official decision is based on the fact that "the immigration authorities of the Republic of Chile have expressed their intention to maintain the transit of their compatriots within the Argentine corridor, involving the Cardenal Samoré and Huemules border crossings for the sole purpose of carrying out country-to-country transit."
It is recalled that within the framework of the "Argentine-Chilean Agreement on Land Transport in Transit", signed in 1974, each country may link two points of its territory involving the other country.
It is expressly clarified that the transit authorization will be given “provided that the exempted persons were ASYMPTOMATIC, and comply, both inside and outside the country, with the recommendations and instructions issued by the national health authority."
The provision, signed by the head of Migration, María Florencia Carignano, comes into effect immediately.
