The governments of Argentina and Uruguay signed an agreement to dredge 37 kilometers of the Rio de la Plata canals that serve as a border between the two countries.
This important work will be carried out with the economic effort of the Argentine Republic and the Eastern Republic of Uruguay," the Argentine Foreign Ministry reported in a statement.
The canal maintenance works will have two phases, the first of which will extend over the next twelve months, to dredge the channels in their First section, between kilometer 37 (Barra del Farallón) and kilometer 0 of the Uruguay River (Martín García Canal).
The tasks were awarded through an international public tender to the Belgian-Dutch consortium Boskalis Dredging International.
The project will allow vessels with greater draft to navigate, thereby increasing their load limit.

This agreement concludes a process that began on April 18, 2017, the date on which the River Plate Management Commission called for an international public tender for the aforementioned deepening and maintenance dredging work, the statement said.
