The Argentine National Service for Agri-Food Health and Quality (Senasa) and the National Fisheries Health Agency (Sanipes) of Peru strengthen bilateral ties with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on food security, fisheries and aquaculture, formalized this Thursday (28.11.2019).
The document, which bears the signatures of the presidents of Senasa, Ricardo Negri, and Sanipes, Johnny Marchán Peña, promotes the harmonization of health regulations, establishes joint control in compliance with health requirements and facilitates trade for fishery products between both countries.
At the Senasa headquarters, Negri received the Peruvian ambassador to Argentina, Peter Camino Cannock, who presented him with the Memorandum signed by the head of Sanipes. The meeting was also attended by the coordinator of International Relations of Senasa, Miguel Donatelli, and the counselor of the Embassy of Peru in Argentina, Giovanna Gómez Valdivia.
"This is a very important agreement due to its scope, as it will allow us to update information and knowledge between both parties to strengthen food security in fishery products.", said Negri when signing the document.
The agreement will facilitate the exchange of information between both organizations, given that this legal instrument makes them strategic partners in establishing mechanisms for inter-institutional collaboration and carrying out activities to strengthen professional capacities in order to safeguard the health and safety of hydrobiological resources and products.
According to the Memorandum, the development of cooperation relations will be carried out in aspects of health, safety, traceability and research of the production chain of both countries. They will also be able to participate in international forums and in the international agenda of the sector to contribute to a good design and evaluation of the standards.
Both organizations recognize the importance of resources from fishing and aquaculture as a safe source of food and the need for the growth of this production to be environmentally, socially and economically sustainable, complying with health standards and guaranteeing the health of the population.
