Argentina and Paraguay strengthen bilateral relations

-

Argentina and Paraguay strengthened their bilateral working ties during a meeting held in Buenos Aires from August 9 to 11, between their national services of Agri-Food Health and Quality (Senasa) and Plant and Seed Health (Senave), respectively.

“This type of meeting helps the parties maintain a dialogue and a common language in the coordination of joint actions at the phytosanitary level,” said Diego Quiroga, National Director of Plant Protection at Senasa.

During the meeting They strengthened bilateral relations in the phytosanitary field, made progress in cooperation projects between both countries and issues related to bilateral trade, such as the implementation of integrated control areas and inspection systems in ports.

“We analyze specific phytosanitary technical issues of cooperation between both health services that we have been carrying out near the border, in what we call emerging pests, such as South American locust, boll weevil and HLB, where we have had very good results in terms of surveillance and prevention,” explained Quiroga.

The agenda of topics addressed also included – at Senave's request – Senasa's management and institutional organization model, its modernization, and the working methodology with its Advisory Council.

"The new Senave management was very interested in learning about the actions undertaken by Senasa in its new structure and the de-bureaucratization of its services," concluded Quiroga.
