Argentina and the United States signed today an agreement on the exchange of tax information that seeks to combat tax evasion. The agreement was signed by the Argentine Minister of Finance and Public Finance, Alfonso Prat-Gay, and the United States ambassador in Buenos Aires, Noah Mamet, in the presence of the head of the Federal Administration of Public Revenues (AFIP) of Argentina, Alberto Abad.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Finance, the agreement seeks to combat tax evasion and promotes fiscal transparency. This agreement that we signed is a consequence of the process that Argentina is undergoing, recovering its credibility as a country in the world, rebuilding institutions and governance, and undertaking the structural reforms that we need.", Prat-Gay said.
Last September, at a meeting in Buenos Aires, Prat-Gay and the US Treasury Secretary, Jack Lew, agreed to advance cooperation between both governments to exchange tax information on their citizens and to redouble efforts in the fight against money laundering.
"From now on, AFIP will have a valuable tool to detect, in the United States, undeclared assets by Argentine taxpayers who decide not to take advantage of this tax amnesty regime," Prat-Gay said today.
