Argentina and Chile signed this Thursday (22.08.2019) in Buenos Aires a Protocol for Coordination of Energy Emergencies, during a meeting between the Secretary of Energy of the Ministry of Finance, Gustavo Lopetegui and the Chilean Minister of the area, Juan Carlos Jobet.
«The Secretary of Government for Energy, Gustavo Lopetegui, met today with the Minister of Energy of Chile, Juan Carlos Jobet. Both officials reviewed with their teams the agenda of bilateral energy cooperation in gas, oil and electrical interconnection and signed the Protocol for Coordination of Energy Emergencies", the Treasury Department reported.
During the meeting, "the progress made in the rehabilitation of the trans-Andean oil pipeline, the supply of Argentine gas to southern Chile and the binational electrical interconnections" were reviewed.
"The Energy Emergency Coordination Protocol establishes the mechanisms for alerting and restoring gas shipments in the event of possible emergencies that may occur. The document had been one of the topics agreed upon at the meeting of the Second Binational Energy Roundtable held on 25/4 in Santiago, Chile," the statement said.
In September 2018, Argentina returned to exporting gas to Chile under the interruptible modality, after the abrupt suspension of shipments in 2007..
"Due to the growth in production, exports have been growing steadily. During the first half of 2019, an average of 5.9 million m3 per day was exported, including shipments to Chile, Brazil and Uruguay," the official text stated.
Yesterday, provision 168/2019 was published in the official bulletin, which establishes the conditions for authorizing gas exports under firm (non-interruptible) conditions to Chile.
The maximum export volume under this modality will be 10 million m3 per day and permits will be granted for the period between September 15, 2019 and May 15, 2020.
Lopetegui and Jobet will visit the Loma Campana deposit in Vaca Muerta this Friday along with a delegation of businessmen.
