In the framework of a bilateral meeting between Argentina and Chile, the National Service for Agri-Food Health and Quality (Senasa) together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – ProChile, the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca), Customs and the Consulate of the Republic of Chile in the city of Río Gallegos, advanced a joint work agenda on international transit of fishery products.
The meeting, held at the Paso de Integración Austral, aimed to agree on criteria for the unification of procedures in international transits between Chile, Argentina and third countries of salmon and other fishing products..
In addition, information was provided on the implementation of the electronic processing project for border transits. between both countries and joint lines of work were proposed for updating the Bilateral Agreement of 1993.
The meeting was chaired by the Consul General of Chile in Río Gallegos, Sergio Valenzuela León, the regional director of Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica of ProChile, Claudio Villareal, and on behalf of Senasa, the regional thematic coordinator of Food Safety and Quality, Eduardo Clapera. Officials from Sernapesca, Chilean Customs and the Senasa Office in Río Gallegos also participated.
Clapera highlighted that "The participation of Sernapesca agents for the first time in a meeting of this type strengthens and improves the integration between both services, since it allows the exchange of criteria for application at border crossings and the necessary contacts in cases of contingencies in the transit of fishing products.".
