Argentina and Brazil will seek regulatory convergence in bilateral and regional trade to eliminate obstacles and reduce costs of commercial operations in the bloc. This was agreed during the meeting of the VIII Bilateral Commission on Production and Trade between both countries, which took place in Buenos Aires, according to the Ministry of Production on Friday (10.5.2019).
The activity of this Commission was headed by the Minister of Production and Labor, Dante Sica, together with the Special Secretary of Foreign Trade and International Affairs of Brazil, Marcos Troyjo.
During the meeting, “The officials advanced the bilateral trade agenda with a focus on trade facilitation and regulatory convergence, instructing their technical teams to work on a roadmap proposal to be submitted to the ministers.".
The two governments agreed on the need to move forward as soon as possible in the negotiation of the Intra-Mercosur Trade Facilitation Agreement, which will include additional commitments to those assumed within the framework of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Representing Argentina, along with Dante Sica, were the Secretary of Foreign Trade, Marisa Bircher; the Secretary of International Economic Relations, Horacio Reyser; and the Secretary of Industry, Fernando Grasso.
Marcos Trovio was accompanied from Brazil by the Secretary of Foreign Trade, Lucas Ferraz, and the Brazilian ambassador to Argentina, Sergio Danesse.
Issues of market access, trade protection, the shared agenda with Mercosur and the bloc's external trade negotiations were also discussed.
