During 2017, the National Service of Health and Agri-Food Quality (Senasa) certified the Export of 206.039 tons of popcorn to 112 countries and for a FOB value, declared by the operators, of about 112.528.667 dollars. (*)
Currently, 52 plants located in the main corn-growing regions of our country are registered and authorized for export by Senasa, with four well-defined areas that concentrate the largest proportion of this crop: North and Southeast of Buenos Aires, South of Santa Fe, Córdoba, and the NOA.
Like other corns, such as silver (Flint) or high value (MAV), popcorn (also known as pochoclo, pororó, popcorn) is a differentiated product intended for human consumption with added value through processing.
Argentina, as the world's leading exporter and one of the most prominent producers of popcorn, is one of the world's leading producers. It exports almost all of what it produces, around 97% of the total, diverting the remaining 3% to domestic consumption.
Among the most notable destinations for this period are: India, Colombia, United Arab Emirates, Peru, Morocco, Ecuador, Egypt and, to a lesser extent, Türkiye, Algeria, and the Philippines, among others.
