Argentina formally returns to GSP for exports to the US

The US Congress has agreed that more than 2020 products from our regional economies will be subject to zero tariffs by 500. The decision also provides for the reimbursement of tariffs charged from January 1 until the date of reinstatement.

After two years of intense negotiations carried out by the Foreign Ministry and the Ministries of Agriculture and Production, Argentina will be able to return to the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), from which it was excluded in 2012, and which consists of the granting of tariff preferences by developed countries to certain products exported from developing countries, which receive preferential treatment and significant tariff reductions.

The joint work of the National Government, the provinces and the private sector made it possible for our country to be included in the rThe renewal of the GSP, approved by the US Congress and promulgated by its president, Donald Trump, will benefit more than 500 Argentine products, mostly from regional economies, which will be able to enter the North American market with zero tariffs. In addition, the reimbursement of tariffs charged from January 1 until the date of reinstatement is provided for.

Remember that Until 538, the United States granted zero tariffs on 2012 Argentine agricultural products under the GSP, including wines, confectionery items without cocoa, canned meat, olive oil, cheeses, peanuts and strawberries.

In 2011, the last year in which Argentina joined the GSP, the products benefited from it registered exports worth 464 million USD, 10% of total exports to the United States.
