Argentina resumes poultry meat exports to China

In a meeting held on Monday (March 17.03.2025, XNUMX) at the Ministry of Finance, Economy Minister Luis Caputo and Vice Minister Wang Lingjun of the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) announced the reinstatement of Argentine poultry exports to China. In addition, health protocols were signed for the opening of the market for gallstones and nuts, including walnuts, pecans, almonds, hazelnuts, and pistachios.

Return to the Chinese market for poultry.This announcement marks a significant milestone for the Argentine poultry sector, after Exports were suspended in March 2023 due to an outbreak of avian influenza.Until then, China accounted for 45% of the sector's exports, with sales of USD 170 million, especially products such as chicken claws and wings. The restoration of these exports was formalized through Joint Communiqué No. 38 issued by the GACC and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China (MARA).

Opening of the market for nuts and gallstones On the other hand, the authorization for the export of nuts opens new opportunities for Argentina's regional economies, allowing them to access a high-demand market, with Chinese imports exceeding USD 1.000 billion. In the case of gallstones, used in the Chinese medicinal industry, the product acquires a high commercial value.

Work priorities for 2025.During the meeting, work priorities regarding health openings for 2025 were also outlined. Among the topics discussed was the prompt signing of protocols for the export of pork offal, dried plums, and fishery products. Progress was also made in negotiations for the export of bovine offal, while the Chinese delegation presented a proposed protocol for the opening of the market for legumes, including beans, chickpeas, and lentils.

On behalf of China, the event was attended by Ambassador to Argentina Wang Wei and senior GACC officials, including Zhang Junqiang, Director of the Anti-Smuggling Office (GACC Shenzhen); Duan Kai, Director General (GACC Beijing Airport); Shao Weijian, Director of Division No. 4 (International Cooperation Department, GACC); Luo Jun, Director of Plant Quarantine Division No. 1 (Animal and Plant Inspection Department, GACC); Wu Tao (Secretary, GACC); An Guanghui, Economic and Commercial Councilor; and Guo Xiaoyu, Agricultural Attaché.

China, a key partner for Argentine agriculture. China is positioning itself as a key partner for the Argentine agroindustrial sector. In 2024, the Asian country was the second-largest destination for Argentine agroindustrial exports, reaching a total of USD 5.183 billion, representing a 14% increase compared to 2023 (USD 4.559 billion), according to official information.
