Argentina: “Green Insurance” for the forestry sector is presented

-

The President of the Nation, Mauricio Macri, announced the implementation of the Green Insurance, in the Corrientes town of Paso de la Patria, on the morning of this Thursday (14.6.2018).

Macri stressed the importance of this initiative that will generate greater savings than 1.000 billion pthose. Green Insurance will allocate 1% of the value of each car, motorcycle and cargo truck policy to the Forest Promotion Law No. 25.080, which promotes work in the chain. In this way, each vehicle that produces CO2 will contribute resources that will mitigate the effects of gases and thus reduce its carbon footprint, according to the Ministry of Agroindustry.

Promoting the forest chain

"Today we have an area of 1,3 million hectares of cultivated forests, of which around half was planted under Law 25.080, which remains in force until January 2019," stressed the Minister of Agroindustry of the Nation, Luis Miguel Etchevehere.

«We have a goal with the forest chain to reach 2 million hectares of cultivated forests by 2030. The Government supports this activity with actions such as those we are presenting today, joining forces and proposals," said Etchevehere, adding that "with the development of this activity we are helping to fulfill the commitment assumed by the country regarding mitigation of climate change, because more planted forests capture and keep carbon fixed in the atmosphere."

digital policy

The initiative complements the digital policy project that the National Insurance Superintendency is developing together with the Ministry of Modernization, which proposes replacing paper policies digitally. This will result in savings in printing, distribution and filing. The MiArgentina application will also allow each driver to display their current insurance coverage on their cell phone.

Other themes

The support for the Promotion Law No. 25.080 will contribute, among other things, to the care of the forest heritage and the planting of at least 62 thousand hectares per year. The funds will reach 18 thousand small and medium producers through Non-Refundable Contributions, to attract investment industrial and generate around 100 thousand new jobs. Among other benefits, Green Insurance will make it possible to comply with the UN-FAO commitments by 2030 assumed by Argentina, and achieve the goal set by the National Government of going from 1,3 million hectares of forest currently to 2 million.
