Mexico has modified the criteria for assigning the quota to import beans without tariffs, facilitating sequential operations for fractional exports of beans to that destination, as a result of the efforts made by Foreign Minister Felipe Solá.
This was established by the General Directorate of Commercial Facilitation and Foreign Trade of Mexico, through Official Letter No. 414.2020.1649, the Argentine Foreign Ministry reported this Monday (29.07.2020) in a statement.
In order to ensure the supply of beans in the face of the health contingency derived from Covid-19 and drought conditions, The Mexican Government has made official the new mechanism for assigning tariff-exempt quotas to import 100.000 tons of beans, in the period from 1/7 to 15/10, 2020.
As of this resolution, the Mexican importer, when requesting authorization for the allocation of a quota in an export operation that includes several shipments, must present the various invoices, the corresponding knowledge of the first shipment and all the information on the scheduling of the rest of the shipments subject to the quota request.
According to the Secretary of International Economic Relations, Jorge Neme, "with the new modality, Argentine bean exporters obtain greater certainty regarding their bean sales to Mexico and will be able to take advantage more efficiently of the 0% tariff quota in 2020."
Neme added that "these actions are part of the Argentine government's objective of expanding and diversifying its exports to Mexico, the second largest economy in Latin America," the official explained.
