Argentina improves conditions for entry of chilled meat to Israel

The Import Administration Directorate of the Ministry of Economy of the State of Israel announced that it has agreed to extend the shelf life of fresh chilled beef exported from Argentina.

The news was confirmed by the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Nation, Guillermo Bernaudo, within the framework of the visit to that country of the Vice President of the Nation, Gabriela Michetti. The Minister of Agroindustry, Luis Miguel Etchevehere, stated that "This is an important achievement after several years of negotiations between Senasa and the Israeli health authority.. Exports of high-value cuts will become economically viable, by reducing transportation costs and allowing for a longer marketing time for our product in a market as demanding as the Israeli one.

From the National Service of Health and Agri-Food Quality (Senasa) they detail that The shelf life of chilled fresh meat increases from 45 to 85 days, which will cover 50 days of sea freight and storage, leaving 35 days of marketing in Israel. In March 2017, the Israeli health authority carried out a health inspection that laid the groundwork for the agreement reached this week.

La Frozen beef is the main agro-industrial export product to Israel, representing almost 60% of the total exported in 2016, for a value of US$ 115 million. In contrast, exports of chilled beef barely reach US$ 7 million. All shipments are made in compliance with the highest standards of health, safety and religious certification required by the Mediterranean country.

The program of Secretary Bernaudo's visit to Israel included meetings of the delegation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivlin, working sessions with Israeli parliamentarians, meetings with officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; with the Innovation Authority, a visit to the Volcani Institute of agricultural research, and participation in a seminar on business and investment opportunities with Israeli entrepreneurs.

According to the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INDEC), Argentina registers a positive trade balance with IsraelIn 2016, our country's total exports reached US$ 196 million, of which 99% corresponded to products from the agro-industrial sector. Meanwhile, imports reached US$ 117 million. Between January and November 2017, the trend continued, with total exports of US$ 177 million and imports of US$ 113 million.

The main Argentine exported products are beef, soy flour, peanuts, fish products, fruit juices, beans, chickpeas, dried plums, powdered milk and confectionery.
