Argentina and Italy decide to promote exchanges between their SMEs

Foreign Ministers Faurie and Moavero Milanesi held a meeting at the San Martín Palace and addressed the main issues of the relationship between Argentina and Italy, and the shared concerns on the regional and international stage.

“This visit is another opportunity to work together to benefit our two peoples, because we all know the common and historical roots that have united us for so many years,” said Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie, together with his Italian counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, whom he received this morning at the San Martín Palace.

Cooperation

At a press conference, Faurie agreed with his counterpart “on the need to update the Strategic Cooperation Agreement that we have between both countries because although it dates back to 1998, 20 years of time is equivalent - due to the speed of events - to more than 50 or 60 years of the agenda of the past time.” In this way, the update of the General Treaty of Friendship and Privileged Cooperation, signed at the end of the 90s, was agreed.

SMEs

In economic terms, the Argentine Foreign Minister announced that work will be done on “an action programme for greater cooperation and integration between Small and Medium Enterprises with specific objectives and a roadmap to generate greater exchange between productive sectors and a link in the value chains between companies in Italy and Argentina.” Faurie recalled that Italian companies have been investing and working in Argentina for more than 50 years, and added that this initiative will include education and recognition of university degrees for professionals from both countries.

EU-Mercosur

“We appreciate the support that Italy has given us throughout the negotiation process of the European Union – Mercosur, which we hope to conclude as soon as possible, and we hope that the Argentine pro tempore presidency can achieve something decisive in this regard. We also appreciate the support that it has given us in the OECD, where Italy is a full member, and which implies a common vision on the multilateral scene of where we want to act with international organizations, what we expect from the United Nations, from the reform of the Security Council, and from the organizations based in Italy, such as the FAO.”

 Innovation

Moavero Milanesi stressed that the bilateral relationship seeks a vision projected towards the future, "supported by innovation and creativity, and with a permanent mechanism for consultation on issues of common interest."
