Argentina strengthens trade ties with the US

-

With the aim of deepening trade relations and investments between both countries, the Secretary of Government for Agroindustry of the Nation, Luis Miguel Etchevehere, met this Monday (6.5.2019) with representatives of the Chamber of Meat Importers of the United States (MICA, Meat Import Council of America, for its acronym in English).

«Yesterday I was present at the first shipment of meat from an Argentinean kosher-certified refrigerator, destined for the United States, and we are very happy to be back in the North American market.", Etchevehere said in front of the delegation of the Chamber of Meat Importers of the United States. He added: "We hope to recover all the lost years that we were outside of that market, and we will continue working to generate and promote new cooperation agreements.«.

Following the welcoming remarks by the Secretary of Agroindustry, a review of the beef sector was conducted by the director of Economic Studies of the portfolio, Consolación Otaño, and a team of Senasa specialists commented on the sanitary work carried out by the organization in Argentine livestock in terms of quality and safety, focusing on compliance with export protocols.

Representatives of the Association, which is responsible for 90% of beef and lamb imports to the United States, expressed their enthusiasm for the recent opening of the Argentine kosher meat market and the continued strengthening of bilateral relations.

Beef exports

During the first two months of the year, total beef exports reached 98.738 tons equivalent to bone-in beef, which represents a growth of 46,22% compared to the same period in 2018.
In 2018, almost 356.000 tons of beef were exported, which represents an 81,7% increase over the total volume shipped in 2017, according to data from the Chamber of the Meat Industry and Commerce of the Argentine Republic (Ciccra).

It is worth noting that the 2018 results were the highest in the last nine years. Last year's figures placed Argentina in sixth place in the world ranking of beef exporters.

The main destination for shipments is China, which purchases 68% of Argentine meat exported, followed by Russia.
