Argentina continues to export poultry meat to Chile

A delegation from Chile's Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) inspected Argentina's fresh poultry meat production system from May 28 to June 7, which is carried out by the National Service for Food Health and Quality (Senasa), with the aim of rehabilitating and enabling new poultry refrigeration facilities to export their products to that market.

The initial and final meetings were held at the Senasa headquarters, where officials from both organisms They made presentations and preliminary conclusions of the official visit.

The Director of Animal Products Safety, María Luisa Bonhomme, and the Coordinator of International Relations, María Inés Vica, were present on behalf of the Argentine health service. The Chilean auditors were accompanied by professionals from the Animal Products Safety Directorate, Gustavo Soto Kruse, Daniel Larrañaga and Irán Soler.

Visit to establishments

The Chilean delegation – composed of Juan Tapia Bergqvist, Victor Galindo Flores, Paulina Mendez Romero, Andres Arias Carvajal, Igor Perez Pinar and Cesar Lopendia Rivas – audited establishments located in the provinces of Buenos Aires, Entre Rios, Neuquen and Cordoba, which if they are in a position to do so, could be added to the list of those already authorized to trade with Chile.

In this regard, the coordinator of Safety in Products of Avian Origin, Soto Kruse, explained that “the work carried out by Senasa to keep a market like Chile open is very important. For the Argentine poultry sector, this country is a very significant destination since a large part of the exports go to this country.”

“We have had a commercial relationship with Chile for many years and it is very important for the Argentine poultry industry to maintain this market and with the largest possible number of plants enabled,” added the Senasa professional.

Soto Kruse highlighted that the auditors emphasize in their final conclusions "that the official control system of Senasa is robust and provides guarantees for Chilean health requirements; therefore, it will be possible to have establishments that maintain their current authorization and new plants, thus managing to extend to a total of 18 establishments that will be able to export their production to the neighboring country. The final report is still pending, but the preliminary overall result is very good.”

Chile is one of the countries with the highest demand for Argentine chickens, in addition to China, Russia, the European Union and South Africa.
