Argentina-Brazil: trade increased 34,1% in January, but with a negative balance

According to the latest bilateral trade report prepared by the Argentine Chamber of Commerce and Services (CAC), trade between Argentina and Brazil reached USD 2098 million in January 2025, which represents an increase in 34,1% compared to the same month in 2024, when USD 1564 million was recorded.

Despite the growth of bilateral trade, the trade balance for Argentina in January 2025 was negative by USD 326 million, reversing the surplus of US$ 29 million recorded in January 2024. In this way, Argentina returned to a deficit balance after having closed December 2024 with a positive balance.

The report also notes that total trade exchange fell 13,3% Compared to last December, Argentine exports fell by 28,4% and imports from Brazil rose by 2,5%.

The year-on-year growth of Argentine exports to Brazil in January was mainly explained by the increase in sales of the following: Solutions: liquefied propane and butane, ethylene polymers, piston engines and their parts, cheese and milk, as well as alcohols, phenols and derivatives. As for Argentine imports, the 57,9% increase was largely due to the increased purchase of passenger vehicles, street vehicles, trucks for the transport of goods, alumina and cocoa powder.

Argentina positioned itself as the Brazil's fourth largest supplier, behind China, Hong Kong and Macao (US$ 6052 million), the United States (US$ 3443 million) and Germany (US$ 1244 million). In turn, among the main buyers of Brazilian products, Argentina occupied the third place, after China, Hong Kong and Macao (US$ 5470 million) and the United States (US$ 3213 million).
