Argentina and Brazil made progress in strengthening joint efforts at the border to speed up trade in agricultural products between the two countries after a meeting held on Tuesday (17.7.2018).
This was agreed upon by the president of the National Service of Health and Agri-Food Quality (Senasa) of Argentina, Ricardo Negri, and his counterpart from the Secretariat of Agricultural Defense (SDA) of Brazil, Eduardo Pacifici Rangel, according to the statement from the Argentine organization.

According to the text, the agreement was made at a bilateral meeting that took place in the integrated border checkpoint between the cities of Santo Tomé, in the province of Corrientes, and São Borja, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, through which a large flow of agricultural and agro-industrial merchandise passes.

Likewise, the authorities of Argentina and Brazil advanced an agenda sanitary and phytosanitary of bilateral issues.
“We work to see how to improve the processes, integration in the region from a regulatory and operational point of view and in the cooperation of laboratories to accelerate food trade between the two countries," explained Negri.
“We were looking at a fairly full agenda of topics, we established the goals of the work teams and we defined the focal points of Senasa and SDA in each of the countries and we agreed to meet every three months to follow up on the issues discussed. In addition, once a year we will meet at a border post," concluded the president of Senasa.
The agenda included bilateral issues such as: operational procedures in the São Borja/Santo Tomé integrated control; trade facilitation through regulatory convergence; joint work procedures in integrated control posts and cooperation of reference laboratories, electronic certification and traceability system.
There was also talk about the agreements with other countries extra Mercosur and established as a regional priority the prevention and control of brucellosis and tuberculosis, among other issues.
