The Argentine government has authorized Wintershall Energía and Exxonmobil Exploration Argentina to export surplus natural gas to neighboring Chile.
This is established by the General Resolutions 159 y 164, published in the Official Gazette. The regulations indicate that the destination of natural gas exported by Wintershall Energía will be the company Colbún, while for shipments from Exxonmobil Exploration Argentina it will be the company Innergy Soluciones Energéticas.
Wintershall Energy has been approved to deliver "a maximum volume of 750.000 cubic meters per day of natural gas of 9.300 kilocalories per cubic meter until (…) May 1, 2019, or until a total maximum quantity of 159 million cubic meters is reached."
On the other hand, Exxonmobil can export "a maximum volume of 400.000 cubic meters of natural gas of 9.300 kilocalories per cubic meter from (…) October 1, 2018 to (…) May 1, 2019" or until completing a maximum quantity, according to the recitals of the resolution, of 84 million cubic meters.
Both authorizations are subject to "interruption when there are internal supply problems."
So far, shipments are made from southern Patagonia and the Vaca Muerta formation in the Neuquén Basin.
