AFIP Customs dismantles international smuggling worth US$3 million

Following an international investigation between Chile and Argentina, the AFIP Customs dismantled an international smuggling operation which culminated in the seizure of 8 high-end vehicles, 248 cell phones, hundreds of technological accessories and the arrest of 6 Chilean citizens. The total amount involved in the operation exceeds 3 million dollars.

Work together

The joint investigations were carried out with the Argentine National Gendarmerie, the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Argentine Republic and the Public Prosecutor's Office of Chile, the statement said.

In the operation, the Aduana participated in the 3 raids ordered by the Court that were carried out in the Argentine provinces of Córdoba and Mendoza. In addition, the customs officers carried out the Tracking of Chevrolet Camaro cars who participated in the maneuver.

How the gang operated

The gang carried out violent assaults on warehouses belonging to stores wholesalers in the Chilean capital to distribute such merchandise to another group in charge of transporting the smuggled products to Mendoza and Córdoba.

The Chilean police investigation included tracking to Argentina of one of the vehicles involved in the smuggling operations. Thus, the addresses in Mendoza and Córdoba, the presumed final destinations of the merchandise, were identified.

Following multiple raids carried out in the cities of both countries, the arrest was made of the members of that illicit association. 

To this end, the Local Prosecutor's Office of Las Condes intervened in Chile, while in Argentina the Federal Prosecutor's Office No. 2 of Mendoza and the Federal Court No. 1 of Mendoza (Criminal Secretariat "B") intervened.
