Aerolíneas Argentinas will invest US$9,8 million in the modernization of its computer systems with the incorporation of a new data center and two mainframe computers that will allow the system to expand its storage capacity.
The goal, the company said, is "opTiming information processing, better safeguarding technological assets, ensuring the availability and continuity of operations, optimizing maintenance costs and mitigating points of failure"the company said in a statement.
This month, the company's IT center was migrated to the new data center, located at Aerolíneas' facilities at Ezeiza Airport, an isolated space with UPS equipment and generators that can supply possible power outages, as well as refrigeration and fire control systems.
The new data center has duplicate security systems that prevent disruptions, is resistant to water ingress, has a gas-based fireproof system, and has thermal stability and state-of-the-art network electronics; it is an antimagnetic room, which protects the equipment.
The data center “box” had been built three years ago, but the installation and wiring had never been completed, nor had the computer equipment been moved, the airline recalled.
On the other hand, Aerolíneas acquired two new central data processing equipment to replace the previous nine, which were so old that they were not compatible with the company's current needs.
The investment also includes a contract to renew the area's wiring, which was 20 years old.
Finally I know launched a tender to update and expand data storage capacity, computer libraries, to ensure greater speed and reliability.
The new equipment will be added to other equipment that had been purchased years ago by the company at a cost of US$2 million, but which had remained unconnected to the system until now.
The company aims to "optimize the processing of the growing amount of information it generates, better protect its technological assets, ensure the availability and continuity of its operations, optimize maintenance costs and mitigate points of failure," the statement concluded.
