The National Service of Customs intercepted 102 kilos of marijuana in the advance El Loa, located at north of Chile, an operation for which a Chilean and a Colombian were placed in preventive detention. The shipment was destined for Santiago and was hidden inside the cabin of a truck.
The Regional Director of the Iquique Customs Office, Cristian Molina Silva, highlighted the procedure and the efforts made by inspectors to prevent the smuggling of all types of illicit substances.
“The country and the world are experiencing a special condition due to the Coronavirus pandemic, despite this, Drug traffickers and smugglers continue to operate as we have seen in recent weeks. with various seizures, both of drugs and cigarettes and fake medicines".
In this case, Molina added, there were 98 packages of different sizes that were hidden in the cabin of a truck that left Iquique bound for Santiago.
"The 98 packages contained a total of 102 kilos and 02 grams of pressed marijuana. Said Cargo can reach more than 510 million pesos (US$ 630 thousand) in the market reportsl", said the Regional Director.
After detecting and verifying the illegal content of the packages, the inspectors notified the Public Prosecutor's Office of the situation and the two defendants, along with the drugs and evidence, were handed over to the police.
The truck was driven by the Chilean, who was traveling with the Colombian.Both were taken into custody In the Iquique Guarantee Court and by videoconference, they were charged with illicit drug trafficking as perpetrators. Judge Frederick Roco decreed the legal arrest and set the precautionary measure of preventive detention for the 120 days that the investigation lasts.
