Chilean and Bolivian customs meet on trade and borders

This is the second bilateral meeting between the two customs agencies as part of the agreements reached at the Border Committee held last July in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.

A Bilateral Technical Meeting began this Tuesday (276.09.2017) in Valparaíso, to analyze issues related to foreign trade, border control and other matters common to the Customs of Chile and Bolivia as part of the agreements adopted within the framework of the Border Committee, held at the end of last July in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.

The delegation of Bolivian authorities, headed by the National Manager of Inspection of the Bolivian National Customs, José Blacud, was received by the National Director of Chilean Customs, Claudio Sepúlveda.

"Cooperation is a fundamental element in the development of a modern Customs. In addition, the various border crossings that we share, the implementation of new integrated complexes and the challenges of a more challenging international trade, make this meeting an important step in order to increase cooperation, coordination and exchange of information," he stressed. Claudo Sepulveda.

The Director of Chilean Customs added that “both countries have the aspiration to ensure safe and expeditious foreign trade, but we also want to move forward in becoming a bridge for our entire region.”

This is the second meeting between the two institutions, the first was in 2015 in Iquique, both as a result of the Agreement on Cooperation and Exchange of Information in Customs Matters that both institutions signed in February 2004.

Agenda

DuDuring the working meeting, topics such as strengthening the exchange of information between Customs offices to improve the detection of customs offences will be addressed; progress in the implementation of the electronic transmission of the land manifest and a Single Form for private vehicles; the improvement of controls and coordination between both Customs offices, in addition to the exchange of information for risk analysis.

Part of the work session will also be devoted to reviewing the operation of the five integrated border crossings that both nations share, with the aim of maximizing the efforts that both countries make in customs matters to control foreign trade and the flow of travelers.

This meeting is part of the growing international insertion of the National Customs Service of Chile, which currently holds the Vice Presidency of the Regional Conference of General Directors of Customs of the Americas and the Caribbean for the period 2016-2018.
