Chilean Customs intercepts 531 pickup trucks in Iquique

-

A container with 531 plastic pickup covers with logos and symbols of different car brands was intercepted by inspectors of the National Customs Service in the Iquique Free Trade Zone. The shipment arrived from the United States and its contents were intended to be sold in northern Chile and neighboring countries.

The Regional Director of the Iquique Customs, Cristian Molina Silva, explained that through the selectivity filters used by customs inspectors, a container was selected for documentation that came from New York destined for the Free Trade Zone. Upon arrival in the city, a physical inspection was carried out and the following items were detected: 5 pallets containing a total of 531 pickups with logos, symbols and even specifications for use in vehicles of the Toyota brands for the Hilux, Tundra, Land Cruiser and Revo models, Rugged Line for Dodge Ram and Ford 150, Nissan for Navara and Frontier models, Mazda BT50, and Mitsubishi Triton.

Due to the characteristics of the goods and by virtue of the powers of Customs in relation to border measures, the immediate suspension of clearance was ordered and the goods were placed in custody by infringement of the law on intellectual and industrial property.

Following this, the representatives of the brands were notified and the representative of the importer was warned pending the outcome of the investigation.
The goods have a Customs value exceeding US$ 27 thousand dollars.
