Chilean Customs seizes 5 trucks with US$ 4,1 million in contraband

Five trucks with 10 trailers full of contraband were seized by inspectors of the National Customs Service of Chile when they tried to leave the country bound for Bolivia. one of the largest procedures recorded in recent times and the seized merchandise has a value of US$ 4 million 151 thousand dollars, the entity reported.

The Regional Director of the Iquique Customs, Cristian Molina Silva, said that during the control work on trucks leaving Chile bound for Bolivia, "The team of inspectors stationed at the Colchane border complex profiled a group of vehicles based on the analysis of the documents they presented and the use of fiberscopes to inspect the cargo".

Following the above and due to the size and weather conditions of Colchane, it was decided to send the trucks to the Alto Hospicio gauging yard under escort.

"Upon reviewing the cargo, a many Goods that lacked documentation that would prove its origin, as well as products whose import is prohibited in the neighboring country", said the director, who explained that the crime of smuggling was configured and both the trucks and the products were seized.

The merchandise has a Customs value of US$ 4.151.695,64 dollars and they tried to avoid $1.106.702.735 pesos in taxes. Among the products were a large number of televisions of different sizes, as well as clothing, footwear and even musical instruments.

El first truck When inspected, it had documentation stating that it was transporting a total of 250 packages with vases, buckets and chopping boards from Iquique to Oruro, but in reality it was carrying 336 televisions, 1.620 umbrellas, 3.240 bras, 1.656 pajamas, 7.000 masks, 12.960 ties, 3.840 mixers, 3.600 kitchen gloves, 10.236 leggings, 1.546 T-shirts, 420 pairs of socks, 96 shirts, and 240 robes. 99.500 baby items, 2.780 plastic items, 1.500 sponges, 4.680 sets of scissors, 5 knives, 7.200 padlocks, 20 musical keyboards, 22 electric guitars, 3 acoustic drums, 14 violins, 12 instrument stands, 2 signal processors, 8.500 pairs of used shoes, 500 assortments of bedding and 96 boxes of wet towels.

A similar situation happened with the second truck, which stated that it was carrying 600 boxes of glass cups, but it was found that it actually carried 604 glass cups, 146.592 pairs of underwear, 1.296 blouses, 413.280 pairs of socks, 46.800 bras, 1.080 T-shirts and 12 handkerchiefs. 

El third truck He was also supposedly carrying glass cups, but in reality he was carrying 83.740 dozen socks and 882 dozen gloves.

Meanwhile, fourth truck tried to leave Chile with 7.822 vests, 3.024 towels, 22.509 tights, 10.400 underwear, 11.758 bras, 3.944 flip-flops, 1.300 kitchen towels, 1.200 ladies' blouses, 854 blankets, 7.800 overalls, 1.152 pajamas, 1.444 ladies' pants, 402 televisions, 200 joysticks, 300 TV stands, 108 cases, 306 speakers, 54 headphones, 177 chargers and 80 Sony recorders; while the fifth truck It was carrying 1.470 blankets, 2.160 polar fleece blankets, 15.665 rolls of fabric and 12.400 pairs of used shoes.
