Chilean Customs implements new benefits for Authorized Economic Operators

-

The National Customs Service of Chile established three nuevos benefits that speed up customs procedures of companies certified as Authorized Economic Operators, in order to provide greater facilitation measures for those who possess the seal of commitment to safe trade, OEA.

The National Director of Customs, José Ignacio Palma indicated that “For our Service, it is important to move forward in generating concrete benefits, within the limits of our competence, that allow companies, agents and operators that are fully committed to the secure logistics chain, to reduce processing times and costs, speeding up the entry or exit of goods from the country. This effective reduction in times is positive for companies, operators and their clients and for the country and its economic growth.".

The first of the new benefits allows importers certified as Authorized Economic Operators, exempt from the presentation of proof of origin at the time of importation. In this way, these operators will be able to benefit from preferential tariff treatment for the Free Trade Agreements and Treaties signed by Chile that are detailed in the Resolution No. 978/09-03-2020, without having to have these documents in the folder at the time of dispatch.

In addition, the New procedure that simplifies the processing of Advance Resolutions for AEO operators. In the event that the applicant is an Authorized Economic Operator, particularly importers or exporters, the documentation required by Customs is reduced, thus generating an effect on the reduction of submission and response times for these operators.

Thirdly, a Simplified procedure for gauging at destination, for Authorized Economic Operators, allowing preferential inspection of goods at the company's facilities, for any type of imported cargo. The request for inspection at destination can be sent via email to the Service, which will have a period of 2 days to respond to the AEO company's request. (Exempt Resolution No. 1.770, May 11, 2020)

These measures are added to expedited procedures for appraisal, physical or documentary examination, priority attention for the clearance of merchandise, assignment of a point of contact to assist, address and coordinate customs matters within the Service, among other benefits.
