Chilean Customs prevents smuggling of refrigerated semi-trailers

A refrigerated semi-trailer and two for international cargo were seized for the crime of smuggling by inspectors of the National Customs Service of Chile. In all cases The documentation supporting the cell phones did not correspond to reality.

The Regional Director of the Iquique Customs, Cristian Molina Silva, reported that the First case was recorded in the Quillagua outpost when a carrier was trying to take an empty Great Dane refrigerated semi-trailer of North American origin out of the region. To do so, he presented a supposedly valid registration certificate indicating that the vehicle had no circulation restrictions.

However, Molina added, “Our systems indicated otherwise and when checking the chassis and comparing it with different databases it was confirmed which had been imported by Zona Franca and even had a valid passport from the city of Arica, therefore, the semi-trailer and all associated documents were seized to begin an investigation.".

Similarly, in the Two semi-trailers were intercepted at the Colchane border complex belonging to Bolivian companies because their documentation did not match the chassis or physical characteristics.The physical verification was in every way different from what was stated in the international cargo manifest, the insurance and even in the legalization of origin itself."Molina explained, adding that it was a Goren brand semi-trailer and another one without a model or brand and in blue.

The appraisal of the seized goods established that the Total customs value is US $ 25.755,21 and their owners risk fines of up to five times that value, without prejudice to other possible criminal aspects based on the investigation carried out on the documents.
