The National Customs Service of Chile increased its control capacity The statement said that the new offices in Primavera, Tierra del Fuego Province, were inaugurated on Tuesday (27.11.2018) with the aim of protecting the country.
With the new office, Customs aims to promote trade and the circulation of goods in the Province of Tierra del Fuego, and exercise its role of oversight.
More control
"The importance of our presence at this point is that the characteristics of the tax regime transform the entire Island into a special surveillance zone by Customs, so this new point will not only be able to carry out tax control tasks but also the inspection of trucks in transit to and from Argentina, both continental and Tierra del Fuego," highlighted the Director of the Regional Customs of Punta Arenas, Rodolfo Valenzuela.
Strategic control
This is a strategic control point given the customs and tax regime. under Law 19.149/1993. Until now, Customs only had an office in Porvenir, the capital of Tierra del Fuego Province, where several companies that enjoy the tax benefit in that commune are concentrated.
The new offices are located 170 kilometers from the capital of the Magallanes Region, 168 kilometers from Porvenir and are attended by an official. Every 8 days there is a shift change, so the designated person must travel from Punta Arenas for two hours by land and then sail another 20 minutes through the Strait of Magellan to reach their workplace.
The inauguration was led by Mayor María Teresa Castañón, the Governor of Tierra del Fuego, Margarita Norambuena, the Regional Ministerial Secretary (Seremi) of Finance, Lil Garcés, the Director of the Regional Customs of Punta Arenas, Rodolfo Valenzuela, and the Mayor of Primavera, Blogomir Brztilo.
