Guatemala Customs reaches agreement with the US to strengthen supply chain security

After intense work, The Superintendency of Tax Administration of Guatemala (SAT-G) signed today (17.04.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX) a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) on Authorized Economic Operator (OAS) with the United States Customs and Border Protection Office (CBP).

The signing of the document took place within the framework of the “Trade Facilitation and Security Summit 2023” which is taking place in the city of Boston, and which will facilitate and strengthen the international trade chain with Guatemala's main trading partner, to which 61% of exports (metric tons) are directed.

In this Operating agreement, by which the Customs of Guatemala and the United States are responsible for its execution and implementation, establishing that their respective Programs are safe initiatives (implemented in accordance with the SAFE Regulatory Framework of the World Customs Organization), recognizing the results of the validation and the status of the certification granted to the operators of their respective OAS and C-TPAT programs.

In this way, certified actors in the international logistics chain will receive benefits related to streamlining, easing of dispatch and reduction of checks.

It is recalled that the Guatemalan Customs and the United States Border Protection Office They began negotiations in 2018 and signed a Joint Work Plan in July 2022 to reach a Mutual Recognition Agreement for their OAS programs.

Due to the commitment assumed and the results obtained in the different evaluation and comparison stages, both Customs have reached the conclusion that their Programs are compatible, signing the legal document in which the international recommendations and guidelines are complied with, incorporating new security standards in the supply chain.
