Chilean Customs seized a pistol a Venezuelan passenger at the El Lloa outpost, east of the Antofagasta region.
The tourist was placed in preventive detention after being detected with a gun in his luggage by officials of the National Customs Service of the neighboring country. The procedure took place at the El Loa outpost and the weapon was hidden inside a bag and covered with socks.
The pistol is a German brand Erma, Werke model, 6,35 caliber, and had 4 rounds of ammunition in its magazine. The weapon was in the Venezuelan's luggage, who was traveling with his family on an interprovincial bus bound for Santiago.
Since The gun is an imported item subject to the control of Arms and Explosives, and in addition to the fact that it was hidden and without any documentation proving its legal possession and ownership, Customs inspectors drew up a seizure report. and reported the situation to the Public Prosecutor's Office. The foreign citizen was also placed at the disposal of Carabineros from the El Loa police station.
The traveler was arrested in Iquique and was placed in preventive detention for the 120 days set as the investigation period.
